The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) is celebrating yet another milestone after successfully defending its title as the Best National Polytechnic at the just-concluded 2026 Kenya Music Festival held at Kibabii University in Bungoma County.
The institution demonstrated exceptional excellence in the creative arts, outshining other technical and vocational institutions from across the country to retain the coveted national trophy. The achievement comes just four months after the polytechnic scooped 16 major trophies at the Kenya National Drama Festivals in Nyeri.
Chief Principal Dr Charles Koech said the institution was proud of its students and trainers who represented the college with distinction at the prestigious national competition.
“We are so proud of the team that represented us at the festival, where they ensured that we retained our position as the best national polytechnic,” Koech said shortly after receiving the trophy.
The week-long festival brought together schools, colleges, universities and technical institutions from across the country to showcase their musical talents, ranging from choral music, traditional folk songs, instrumental pieces to modern compositions.
TENP was among the institutions recognized for outstanding performances, emerging top in the national polytechnics category. Koech was present when the institution received its trophy during the State Concert held at the State Lodge in Bungoma and presided over by President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto.
“The achievement is a testament to the talent, dedication and commitment of the students and staff of the Eldoret National Polytechnic,” he said.
Koech said TENP focuses on providing all-round training to learners, ensuring they excel in both academic and co-curricular activities. He noted that nurturing talent in music, drama and sports is central to producing holistic graduates who can compete in the modern job market.
“We give our learners the best chance and training to excel in all areas, academically and in the creative arts, among other areas,” he said.
Residents of Eldoret, led by Benjamin Leting, praised the college for maintaining its top position in the TVET sector, describing it as a leading centre of excellence in the country.
“These achievements are because of the sound leadership of the institution led by Koech, who works well with learners, lecturers and the community around the institution,” Leting said.
Last April, TENP recorded a sterling performance at the Kenya National Drama Festivals in Nyeri County, winning 16 major trophies across multiple categories, including stage plays, spoken word, and cultural dances.
Koech said the institution’s consistent success reflected its commitment to nurturing both academic excellence and student talent, adding that it continues to raise its national profile through co-curricular activities.
“Our tutors and students have raised the name of the school and we are happy with this sterling performance,” he said.
The polytechnic, one of the oldest TVET institutions in the Rift Valley region, has in recent years invested heavily in creative arts, with dedicated trainers and modern facilities for music and drama, a move that is now bearing fruits on the national stage.
