Farmers in Uasin Gishu Get Boost with Superior Pasture Seeds

The Uasin Gishu County Government has distributed high-quality pasture seeds to over 200 farmers in Soy Sub-County. This move supports the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, which helps communities adapt to climate change and improve food security.

The distribution took place in Soy Ward and benefited farmer groups from Kaptait FCS, Soy Merewet FCS, Mateny FCS, and Soy Navillus FCS. Farmers also received training on modern pasture production and its economic benefits.

Pasture varieties shared

The pasture varieties shared include:

  • Desmodium
  • Panicum maximum
  • Boma Rhodes
  • Lucerne
  • Forage sorghum

These improved species will help farmers feed their livestock better. The result? More milk, more meat, and healthier animals. That means more income for households and stronger food security in the region.

“This is more than just farming. It’s about changing lives,” said Hon. Isaac Chirchir Tamogei, Member of County Assembly for Soy Ward.

Farmers Embrace Change

Farmers welcomed the initiative. Many said poor access to quality pasture has held them back for years—especially as climate conditions shift.

“These seeds are part of a bigger plan,” noted Eng. Mbevi, the Climate Change Officer for Soy Sub-County. “We’re making real progress in farming, water use, drainage, and crop diversity.”

Vision for channge

This initiative is part of a broader effort by Uasin Gishu to support grassroots climate solutions. The county believes empowering local communities is the key to lasting impact.

Officials have pledged to track results, continue farmer training, and expand successful projects to other sub-counties.

This initiative is a lifeline for local farmers. It helps them feed their animals better. That means more milk, more meat, and more income. Families can now rely on their farms. It also builds strength against climate change. The training gives them new skills. With continued support, they can grow. This is real change for rural communities.
