Uasin Gishu County has ushered in new leadership for its Youth Affairs and Sports Department with the appointment of CPA Victorine Kapkiai as Chief Officer. Her arrival marks a renewed commitment to empowering young people and advancing grassroots sports development across the region.
Taking over from outgoing Chief Officer Mark Some, CPA Kapkiai brings with her a results-driven, team-oriented approach. Speaking after her appointment, she underscored the value of collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
“I believe in teamwork and consultation,” she stated. “As we embark on this journey, I’m confident that together we can make this department more impactful and productive.”
CPA Kapkiai emphasized the importance of continuing and strengthening existing initiatives like Nguzo—a flagship program focused on youth empowerment and talent development. She expressed her determination to scale up programs that have already shown tangible results, particularly in nurturing young talent across Uasin Gishu.
Among her immediate priorities is the expansion of the Governor’s Cup Football Tournament, a county-led initiative aimed at promoting local football and identifying future stars. Under her leadership, the tournament will now extend its reach to Sub-County levels, amplifying opportunities for youth participation and talent scouting.
“We’re investing in grassroots sports because that’s where the next generation of champions will emerge,” she added.
The newly appointed Chief Officer also acknowledged the foundation laid by her predecessor, Mark Some, who played a pivotal role in environment and climate-related initiatives. His work will continue to influence departmental priorities, with cross-sectoral efforts aimed at integrating environmental awareness within youth programs.
CPA Kapkiai’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as Uasin Gishu County intensifies efforts to create sustainable opportunities for its youth. Her leadership style—anchored in transparency, teamwork, and strategic growth—aligns with the county’s broader development agenda.
The transition is expected to be smooth, with a strong focus on continuity and scaling up existing programs. With CPA Kapkiai at the helm, the Youth and Sports Department is poised for a dynamic and impactful new chapter.
