Towards an Equitable Canon of Care: Uasin Gishu’s Pioneering Pledge

The Uasin Gishu County government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing equitable cancer care to its residents, following a successful feedback meeting with its partners from Sweden’s Region Östergötland.

The meeting, held under the Equity in Cancer Care Project, showcased the power of partnerships in transforming health outcomes.

A Partnership that Works

The meeting, attended by the Steering and Project Committee teams from both counties, reviewed progress made so far and charted new strategies to bridge gaps in cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.

Health Services County Executive Joseph Lagat praised the partnership, saying it has been a game-changer in the county’s health sector.

“This partnership has opened doors for our teams to learn, exchange ideas, and strengthen systems that support equitable cancer services,” Lagat said. “We are seeing real progress, and together, we are moving closer to a future where every resident, regardless of background, can access quality cancer care.”

Improving Cancer Care Services

Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Dr. Paul Wangwe emphasized the importance of continuous learning and feedback, ensuring both counties remain aligned in tackling disparities in cancer care.

“Through the joint project, Uasin Gishu has improved screening outreach, enhanced diagnostic processes, and built stronger community awareness programs,” Dr. Wangwe said.

Scaling Up Initiatives

In addition, Majority Leader Hon Julius Sang highlighted the need for policies to intensify cancer screening at community health outreaches, expanded training programs for health workers, and strengthened data systems to guide targeted interventions.

Moreso, both partners reaffirmed their dedication to scaling up initiatives that promote prevention, early detection, and equal access to lifesaving services.

A Beacon of Hope

The collaboration between Uasin Gishu County and Region Östergötland continues to stand as a beacon of what is possible when local and international partners unite with a shared mission: equitable cancer care for all.

With a renewed commitment to partnership and progress, Uasin Gishu County is moving closer to achieving its goal of providing quality cancer care to all its residents.
