Uasin Gishu County to Set Up Asphalt Concrete Plant in Baharini to Boost Road Infrastructure

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is moving forward with plans to establish an Asphalt Concrete Plant in Baharini, located on the outskirts of Eldoret City. This transformative project aims to significantly upgrade road infrastructure across the region, aligning with Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s development agenda.

Transforming Road Networks to All-Weather Standards

Governor Bii’s administration has prioritized the upgrading of roads to all-weather bitumen standards as part of his broader infrastructure development strategy. This initiative is a cornerstone of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023–2027 and reflects pillar number six of the governor’s manifesto: transforming the county’s road network.

Speaking on the project’s significance, Eng. Joseph Lagat, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, emphasized the need for clear guidelines.

“We want to come up with a strong policy framework that will help us have sustainable outcomes,” he said.

Supporting Sustainable and Timely Development

According to Eng. Lagat, Governor Bii is deeply committed to ensuring that all county projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with maximum impact for the residents. The proposed asphalt plant will play a vital role in reducing the county’s reliance on outsourced road materials and contractors.

The plant is expected to:

  • Streamline road construction and maintenance
  • Reduce long-term maintenance costs
  • Improve rural and urban connectivity
  • Enhance local job creation and economic activity

Policy Framework in Progress

The draft policy that will guide the operationalization of the plant is set to be presented to the County Cabinet next week. Once approved, this framework will govern the plant’s operations with a focus on efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.

This marks a significant milestone in Uasin Gishu’s infrastructure journey, ensuring long-term solutions to road challenges that have affected mobility, agriculture, and trade.

Local Impact and Economic Growth

Residents of Baharini and neighboring areas are optimistic that the plant will result in improved road conditions, increased accessibility, and the stimulation of local economies. With better roads, transport costs are expected to drop, while ease of doing business in and around Eldoret will increase.

The County Government remains steadfast in its mission to deliver high-quality infrastructure that meets community needs, while fostering inclusive development.
