Governor Bii Signs People-Centered Budget and New Skills Law

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has assented to the County’s 2025/26 Budget.
The budget, approved by the County Assembly, comes with good news for residents—no new taxes or increased levies.

Governor Bii said the budget aims to promote growth without burdening the people.

“This is a progressive finance bill, with no new taxes and no increased levies,” he stated.

Focus on Key Sectors

The new budget gives priority to critical areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
Governor Bii assured residents that funds will be used prudently to benefit all.

Landmark Law on Education and Skills

Alongside the budget, Governor Bii also signed the Fees, Bursaries, and Skills Development Act into law.
He described it as a historic moment for the county’s future.

“This is a landmark legislation that will ensure equitable access to education and economic opportunities for all—particularly the most vulnerable members of our society,” the governor said.

Support for Vulnerable Groups

The new law outlines how bursaries will be distributed fairly.
It also supports vocational training and skills development for youth and women.
The aim is to boost access to opportunities and reduce inequality.

Transparency and Fairness

The Act introduces clear systems to identify deserving beneficiaries.
This will help eliminate bias and ensure resources reach those who need them most.

Public Reaction

Residents have welcomed the budget and the new law.
Many praised the decision not to raise taxes, especially during difficult economic times.

Looking Ahead

Implementation of the budget and the Act will begin immediately.
The county will also put in place systems to monitor their impact.

Governor’s Commitment

Governor Bii reaffirmed his pledge to serve all residents equally.

“We are building a county where opportunity is not a privilege, but a right for all,” he concluded.
