Police in Uasin Gishu County have launched a manhunt for a cleaner attached to a private hospital in Eldoret City who is alleged to have defiled a minor inside the facility where she had gone for treatment.
According to police reports, the disturbing incident occurred on July 21, 2026, at Living Room International Hospital located along the busy Eldoret-Kaptagat Road. The matter was later reported by the victim’s parents at Ainabkoi Police Station.
Ainabkoi Sub-County Police Commander Charles Getende confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing and officers have been deployed to track down the suspect.
Getende revealed that the suspect, who is a subordinate staff member and has been working at the hospital as a cleaner for the past ten years, fled the facility immediately after the incident was reported.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect’s last known mobile phone signal was traced to Kitale Town in Trans Nzoia County, where detectives believe he is currently hiding.
“We have deployed our officers and we are pursuing the suspect. We are appealing to members of the public who may have information about his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station,” Getende said.
According to the family of the minor, the girl had been taken to the hospital for treatment and was asked to provide a stool sample as part of the medical examination.
It was while she was heading to the hospital washroom that she allegedly encountered the cleaner who attacked her.
The family says the incident has left the minor deeply traumatized, both physically and psychologically, and she has been unable to resume her normal school routine since the ordeal.
They are now calling for justice and want the suspect arrested and prosecuted, while also demanding accountability from the hospital management for failing to protect patients within the facility.
When contacted for comment regarding the incident, the hospital director Titus Boit declined to give a detailed response, citing ongoing police investigations.
The case has sparked outrage among residents of Eldoret and human rights activists who have condemned the act and called for enhanced security measures in health facilities to protect vulnerable patients, especially children.
Police say they are also engaging the hospital management to establish the circumstances under which the incident occurred and whether there were lapses in security and patient safety protocols.
The minor has since been taken for medical examination and counselling as investigations continue.
