Preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations are firmly on track, with key infrastructure projects in Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties progressing steadily, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.
Murkomen, who led a government delegation on an inspection tour of the three counties scheduled to co-host the national event, reported that the 15,000-seater Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret is now 58 per cent complete. The facility, the first international-standard stadium outside Nairobi, will host the main Mashujaa Day ceremony.
The CS was accompanied by Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Governors Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), Stephen Sang (Nandi) and Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet), alongside several Members of Parliament and regional leaders. He also inspected modernisation works at the 64 Stadium in Eldoret town.
Murkomen emphasised that the government is determined to leave a lasting development footprint beyond the celebrations. Projects under way include upgrades to the Eldoret-Kapsabet road network, construction of Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, student hostels, affordable housing units and a modern market.
In Keiyo North, Kamariny Stadium is more than halfway complete and will host sporting events in the run-up to Mashujaa Day. Additional road, energy and water projects are also advancing across the three counties. A new county headquarters is under construction in Iten.
Ahead of the main event, sports competitions will be held in Tot, Kerio Valley, to mark the return of peace to the region, while Nandi County will host a national youth summit. A sports conference and cultural competitions are also planned.
Murkomen said all projects remain on schedule, underscoring the government’s commitment to delivering tangible development alongside the national celebrations.
