Works are underway to dual the road adjacent to Uasin Gishu Schools in a bid to increase capacity, improve traffic flow and create additional parking spaces.
The project, captured in recent images showing active construction with a gravel base, excavators and workers in high-visibility gear, aims to address congestion in an area serving educational institutions and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Motorcycles, vehicles and pedestrians continue to share the partially upgraded stretch as works progress under partly cloudy skies.
Local observers note that the dual carriageway will help decongest the corridor during peak school hours and enhance safety for learners, parents and motorists. The upgrade also includes provisions for better drainage and organised parking, long-standing concerns in the vicinity of the schools.
The improvements come amid rising expectations for further infrastructure upgrades in Eldoret ahead of a planned presidential visit on 20 October. Residents and county officials have linked the accelerated works to broader preparations for higher-profile events and the city’s growing status.
Uasin Gishu has seen multiple road projects in recent months, including efforts to improve urban links and support the transition of Eldoret toward full city functionality. Officials have previously emphasised the need for smoother traffic movement to support education, commerce and daily commuting.
This dual carriageway near U.G. Schools are a practical step that directly benefits learners and the surrounding community. Expanding capacity in school zones reduces daily frustration and improves safety, which should be a priority in any growing urban centre.
Sustained investment in such targeted upgrades, rather than isolated projects timed around high-profile visits, will determine whether Eldoret’s infrastructure keeps pace with its rapid expansion and the needs of its residents.
