Eldoret Railway City Housing Project Hits 54 Per Cent Completion, Set to Deliver 2,180 Units

Construction of the Boma Yangu Eldoret Railway City Estate in Uasin Gishu County has reached 54 per cent completion, marking significant progress in the government’s affordable housing programme in the North Rift region.

The residential development, located within Eldoret City, is expected to deliver 2,180 housing units upon completion, providing additional accommodation opportunities for residents as the city continues to experience urban growth.

The project comprises multiple high-rise apartment blocks, with construction teams currently undertaking structural works using tower cranes and other heavy machinery.

Beyond the residential buildings, contractors are also working on supporting infrastructure, including internal access roads, drainage networks and utility connections to ensure the estate is equipped with essential services.

Water and electricity installations form part of the project’s master plan, with technicians coordinating underground utility networks alongside construction activities to ensure they align with completed building foundations.

Engineers are also overseeing the supply and use of construction materials, including cement, steel and aggregates, while conducting quality control inspections during concrete works and reinforcement installations.

Environmental management and workplace safety measures have also been incorporated into the construction process, with site teams undertaking dust control, waste management and safety procedures for workers operating heavy equipment and working at elevated heights.

The development is expected to incorporate landscaped green spaces and pedestrian pathways, creating an organised residential environment for future occupants.

Its supporting infrastructure is also expected to improve accessibility within the estate and provide connections to surrounding areas of Eldoret.

The project has attracted attention as Eldoret continues to strengthen its position as a major urban and commercial centre in the North Rift region, following its elevation to city status.

The delivery of 2,180 housing units is expected to contribute to efforts to address the growing demand for affordable and decent accommodation among households in the city and neighbouring areas.

Eldoret’s expanding population, commercial activities and increasing demand for urban services have placed additional pressure on existing housing infrastructure, making large-scale residential developments increasingly important.

The Boma Yangu Railway City Estate is part of the broader national Affordable Housing Programme, which seeks to increase the supply of affordable homes while supporting infrastructure development and creating employment opportunities in the construction sector.

According to updates published on the Boma Yangu platform, the project has crossed the halfway mark, with construction continuing towards the delivery of the planned housing units.

Once completed, the estate is expected to become an important addition to Eldoret’s growing residential landscape and contribute to the city’s long-term urban development.
