Six Killed in Grisly Three-Vehicle Accident Along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway

At least six people, including a matatu driver, have died following a tragic road accident involving three vehicles along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway in Koriomat area, Uasin Gishu County.

The accident occurred around midnight on Saturday, October 31, 2026, involving a Mercedes-Benz Actros truck, a Toyota Hiace matatu belonging to North Rift Sacco and a Toyota Succeed.

According to police reports, the truck was travelling from Nakuru towards Eldoret when its driver reportedly swerved to the right while attempting to avoid another vehicle ahead.

The truck subsequently collided with the Toyota Succeed before crashing into the North Rift Sacco matatu, which was carrying 10 passengers.

The impact was severe, sending both the matatu and the Toyota Succeed into a ditch on the right side of the highway.

Police confirmed that the matatu driver, identified as Shabaan Hassan Wanga, died alongside five female passengers at the scene.

Several other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to different hospitals within Uasin Gishu County for emergency treatment.

The bodies of the six victims were transported to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary, where they were booked pending postmortem examinations.

Police officers visited the accident scene and commenced investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the deadly collision.

Efforts were also underway to tow the wreckage of the vehicles to Burnt Forest Police Station for inspection.

Authorities had yet to establish the identities of the other victims and the exact number of passengers who sustained injuries as investigations continued.

The latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over road safety along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, a major transport corridor connecting the Rift Valley region with western Kenya and other parts of the country.

Reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, speeding and drunk driving have repeatedly been identified among the major contributors to road accidents in Kenya.

Motorists have been urged to observe traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds and exercise caution, particularly when travelling at night.
