University of Eldoret Announces Resumption of Lectures After Nationwide Lecturers’ Strike

The University of Eldoret has directed students to return to campus on Monday, November 2, 2026, following the resolution of the nationwide lecturers’ strike that disrupted learning in public universities for several weeks.

In a communication issued by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, the institution instructed all students to report back promptly and resume their academic activities.

The notice, signed by Acting Registrar Academic Dr Hoseah Kiplagat, called on students to strictly observe the published teaching timetables and actively participate in scheduled academic activities.

The resumption follows an agreement between university staff unions and the government, which brought an end to the industrial action after weeks of negotiations over outstanding financial obligations and the implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).

The industrial action had paralysed learning across several public universities, leaving thousands of students uncertain about the completion of their academic programmes and examination schedules.

University to Review Academic Calendar

Meanwhile, the University of Eldoret Senate is expected to review the academic calendar to determine necessary adjustments following the interruption of learning.

The university management said any changes to the academic schedule would be communicated officially to students and other stakeholders in due course.

The review is expected to provide a framework for recovering lost learning time and ensuring the smooth completion of the current semester.

The administration also thanked students and members of staff for their patience, understanding and cooperation during the period of the industrial action.

The return to normal academic operations marks a significant step towards restoring learning activities at the institution and easing uncertainty among students who had been affected by the prolonged strike.

The University of Eldoret has urged students to take advantage of the resumption and adhere to the updated academic arrangements as the institution works towards restoring its normal teaching and learning schedule.
