Christine Njoki Targets Third Consecutive TechRun 10km Title in Eldoret

Defending champion Christine Njoki is targeting a historic third consecutive victory at the TechRun 10km Road Race, scheduled for November 29, 2026, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The Iten-based athlete will be seeking to extend her dominance in the annual competition after winning the inaugural edition in 2024 and successfully defending her crown in 2025.

Organised by Eldohub, the third edition of the race is expected to attract elite and upcoming athletes, with Njoki expressing confidence in her preparations as she eyes another victory.

Speaking during the race’s media launch in Eldoret, Njoki said she was determined to maintain her winning streak, citing her previous performances as motivation.

“I am ready to defend my title. I have trained well and am looking forward to the race,” she said.

Njoki noted that the financial rewards from previous editions had significantly contributed to her athletics career, helping her pursue her ambitions and improve her performance.

Her quest for a third successive title is expected to be among the major attractions of this year’s competition.

Former London Marathon champion Amos Kipruto, who recently won the Chicago Marathon, called on athletes to register in large numbers and use the competition as an opportunity to showcase their abilities.

Kipruto encouraged young runners to participate in local road races, saying such competitions provide an important pathway for athletes seeking to compete at the international level.

“I want to urge athletes to register and compete in such races to boost their chances of competing on the global stage. I also encourage corporates to organise more races in the country to accommodate many budding athletes,” he said.

He praised Eldohub for establishing a platform that allows athletes to demonstrate their talent while gaining valuable competitive experience.

“I give credit to Eldohub for providing this platform to compete. TechRun has brought a new light and given athletes an opportunity to express their talent,” he added.

Beyond athletics, this year’s TechRun programme will incorporate innovation, entrepreneurship and technology activities aimed at empowering young people.

Eldohub Chief Executive Officer Magdalene Chepkemoi said the expanded programme was designed to connect sports with business and technology while creating opportunities for young innovators.

She revealed that the second day would feature the Beyond the Limit Line Innovation Challenge, bringing together participants from the business, sports and technology sectors.

The third day will feature Talent Enterprise and Feedback, where young technology trainees will showcase innovations developed during their training.

Chepkemoi said Eldohub’s growth reflected the journey of athletes who begin competing in village races before rising to international prominence.

“Eldohub started small, just like an athlete who begins running in the village and later becomes a global elite athlete,” she said.

Launched in 2024, TechRun draws inspiration from the North Rift region’s rich athletics heritage and its reputation as a breeding ground for world-class runners.

Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu Athletics Kenya branch chairman Joseph Boit called on stakeholders to intensify efforts to combat doping, warning that the practice threatened Kenya’s standing in international athletics.

“Doping has become a menace that will tarnish our name. We encourage everyone to support the fight against doping, which has become rampant,” Boit said.

Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member for Sports Robert Kemei announced that the top 10 finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories would receive prize money.

Each category winner will take home Sh250,000, in a move expected to attract competitive athletes and motivate emerging runners.

Kemei commended Eldohub for using the competition to promote athletics while creating opportunities for innovation and youth development.

The TechRun 10km Road Race continues to strengthen Eldoret’s position as a major athletics destination while providing a platform for nurturing the next generation of Kenyan running talent.
