Eldoret National Polytechnic Students Mourn Caroline Jebet After Fatal Road Accident

Students and the wider academic community at The Eldoret National Polytechnic have been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of their colleague, Caroline Jebet, who lost her life in a grisly road accident while reportedly heading to sit her examinations.

Jebet died on Friday after the motorcycle she was travelling on was involved in a collision with a tipper truck along Uganda Road in Eldoret’s Central Business District (CBD).

According to reports, the accident occurred near Uzuri Supermarket after the truck allegedly experienced brake failure before ramming into the motorcycle.

The impact reportedly left Jebet with fatal head injuries, killing her at the scene. The motorcycle rider survived the crash but sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The tragedy has left fellow students devastated, particularly after reports emerged that Jebet was on her way to the institution to sit her examinations when the accident occurred.

What should have been an ordinary academic day turned into a heartbreaking moment for her family, friends and classmates, who are now coming to terms with the loss of a young student whose academic journey was cut short.

Her death has also sparked renewed concern over road safety within Eldoret town, particularly along busy roads frequently used by pedestrians, motorcyclists and motorists.

Eldoret Polytechnic Students Organise Candlelit Vigil

In honour of their departed colleague, students at The Eldoret National Polytechnic have organised a candlelit vigil scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2026.

The procession is expected to begin at 5pm at the institution’s main gate before participants walk to the accident scene along Uganda Road, near Uzuri Supermarket.

Students will light candles at the location where the fatal crash occurred before returning to the institution’s grounds near the cafeteria to conclude the memorial gathering.

The planned vigil is expected to bring together students and members of the polytechnic community to celebrate Jebet’s life, remember her and stand in solidarity with her grieving family.

Her untimely death has left a painful reminder of how road accidents continue to claim young lives, robbing families and learning institutions of promising futures.
