The County Government of Uasin Gishu is making bold strides toward revolutionizing its agricultural sector—this time by investing in world-class poultry processing infrastructure.
On Wednesday, Chief Officer for Livestock Development and Fisheries, Nixon Cheplong, hosted a high-level delegation from Jarvis International, a renowned global leader in meat processing technology. The meeting focused on finalizing plans to establish a modern chicken slaughterhouse in the county, signaling a significant milestone under Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s “Nguzo Kumi” development blueprint—specifically Nguzo No. 1: Agriculture.
A Game-Changer for Poultry Farmers in Uasin Gishu
The upcoming facility is set to meet international hygiene and safety standards, enabling local poultry producers to access new regional and global markets.
“This slaughterhouse will be a turning point for poultry farming in our county,” said Cheplong. “By partnering with Jarvis International, we’re bringing world-class processing technology closer to our farmers—right here in Uasin Gishu.”
The Chief Officer emphasized the importance of not only importing equipment but also ensuring knowledge transfer through staff training and sustainable operational practices.
Boosting Agricultural Value Chains and Rural Employment
Dr. Philip Biamah, the Director of Veterinary Services, underscored the facility’s broader economic impact.
“This project goes beyond poultry. It will support our goal to strengthen agricultural value chains, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve food quality. It will also generate employment in rural areas,” Dr. Biamah stated.

Raymond Cronin, Director at Jarvis International, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting local development.
“We are proud to partner with Uasin Gishu and look forward to contributing to a facility that meets global standards while empowering local communities,” Cronin noted.

With tendering processes nearing completion, the county is expected to break ground in the coming months. Once operational, the slaughterhouse will position Uasin Gishu as a regional hub for poultry processing and agribusiness innovation.
