“It wasn’t easy getting to this level,” he said. “But the experience has been amazing. The festival opened doors for me, and this award is proof that trusting the process, believing in God, and doing what you love truly pays off.”

Having participated in the previous year’s festival through a joint collaboration, this time the designer stepped out on his own and it paid off. He praised the event organizers for consistently promoting African talent and spotlighting fashion rooted in culture.

Inspiring Next generation

“Next year I’m aiming even higher,” he added. “I believe I’ll win more awards. But beyond that, I want to see African culture celebrated in its fullness—not just Kitenge, but everything that represents who we are across the continent. Spice Stitches also emphasized the importance of engaging young people in the fashion world, suggesting that more children should be featured on the runway.

“If parents are willing, kids should participate too. It helps them embrace African diversity from an early age and grow up proud of their identity.”

Looking Ahead

As the Kitenge Fashion Festival continues to grow in popularity and influence, designers like Spice Stitches are proof that African fashion is not only thriving it’s leading a cultural movement.
