The history and culture of education in Uasin Gishu County and the City of Eldoret are being re-written, one classroom, one laboratory and one dormitory at a time; as community leaders, faith-based sponsors and corporate partners rally together to uplift young people and promote literacy.
The fruits of such labor were on full display on Tuesday, 8 th September 2026, at A.C.K. Chepsaita Senior School, where the community gathered to witness the official hand-over of newly constructed facilities funded and built by the M-PESA Foundation.
The school motto ‘Drips of Excellence’ rang true as the new Administration Block, Modern Science Laboratories and New Dormitory were unveiled at the annual sports day; new facilities already benefiting learners in Turbo Constituency.
The school’s 9:00 AM ceremony saw the School Patron, Farouk Kibet, President William Ruto’s Aide, accepted on behalf of a growing number of schools in the county that have benefitted from his patronage, resources and partnerships, the new facilities. Hon. Kibet emerged as a key player in the county’s bid to scale education, particularly in the wake of the declaration of Eldoret as a city whose residents now clamour for quality education.
The Board of Management, Principal, Staff and Students of Chepsaita Senior School, in their joint statement, acknowledged the significance of the new facilities to the academic and holistic growth of their learners.
“The new science laboratories will enable learners to have first-hand experience through CBC practicals and will also expose them to careers in science and technology, medicine and innovation; while the new dormitory will ensure they are safe, secure and comfortable at all times, promoting excellent academic performance in the process,” said the Board.
The new facilities at Chepsaita Senior School are part of a County-wide push to ramp up literacy, especially in urban centers such as Eldoret that has, in recent years, seen a proliferation of sponsored and faith-based education institutions. County leaders have partnered with firms such as M-PESA Foundation and churches such as the Anglican Church of Kenya (A.C.K.) to fund and support sponsorships programs.
“Such an outpouring of generosity is a testimony to the importance of sensitizing our young people and investing in the grassroots,” said Hon. Farouk Kibet, School Patron, at the time of the unveiling.
“Building Today, Transforming Tomorrow,” as the day’s proceedings were aptly titled, is the philosophy that has guided much of the county’s recent investments in education. The message is simple: literacy is the surest path to combating poverty and unlocking opportunities for young people.
Uasin Gishu County, known for its sporting and agricultural produce, has joined the ranks of counties investing in literacy to unlock the potential of its youth and drive economic growth. For many learners, the new science laboratories at Chepsaita Senior School are an opportunity to engage in quality science education and contribute to Kenya’s push to invest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
“This is a milestone for us here at Chepsaita Senior School. We are so grateful to M-PESA Foundation for building this beautiful block of classrooms and labs that will serve our learners long into the future. The donor has truly outdone themselves!” said a group of learners.
The learner population at Chepsaita Senior School echoed similar sentiments, stating that the new facilities had not only boosted morale but also given them reason to believe in the potential of their institution.
Parent representatives praised the high standard of work and commended the M-PESA Foundation for the transparency with which the sponsored project had been executed. As the City of Eldoret continues to invest in transforming its education sector, with a burgeoning number of universities, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and senior schools, the story of Chepsaita Senior School and M-PESA Foundation’s partnership will continue to inspire county leaders in their quest to invest in youth literacy.
