Detectives in Uasin Gishu County have launched investigations after the body of a man was discovered in a maize plantation with visible injuries in Moiben Sub-County.
The body was found on Monday evening behind a building in the Belways area of Kimumu Sub-Location after a village elder alerted police to the presence of a body lying in the farm.
Police officers who rushed to the scene found the body of an adult male lying in the maize plantation. According to police, the victim had a slit throat and a broken right foot at the ankle, injuries that suggest he was subjected to a brutal and violent attack.
Investigators recovered two national identity cards near the body, one belonging to a woman and another believed to belong to the deceased. The discovery of the documents is expected to help officers formally identify the victim and trace his last movements.
The scene showed clear signs of a struggle, with blood stains visible around the area where the body was lying. However, officers did not recover the weapon believed to have been used to inflict the fatal injuries.
Crime scene investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) documented and processed the area before the body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret for preservation pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify and apprehend those responsible. Authorities have also called on members of the public with information that could assist investigations to come forward.
