First Lady Rachel Ruto has officially launched the new KAG Christian Life Assembly Church in Kiambaa, Uasin Gishu County, marking a symbolic rebirth for a site scarred by Kenya’s 2007/08 post-election violence (PEV).
The facility, which includes a main sanctuary, indoor games hall, multi-purpose hall and children’s playground, was dedicated by Rev. Roy Shane Wilson of Christian Life Assembly USA after reconstruction began in 2022.
The Kiambaa church attack on January 1, 2008, remains one of the darkest chapters of the PEV crisis, when attackers burned a church where hundreds had sought refuge.
Human Rights Watch and the International Criminal Court have documented that at least 28 people, including children, were killed and dozens injured; the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission later recorded a mass grave of 26 victims at the site.
Speaking at the launch service on September 11, 2026, Rachel Ruto said the new church should stand as a place of remembrance, reconciliation and hope for Kiambaa and Kenya.
“Today is a day of reflection, remembrance and a renewed hope… to honour the memories of those we lost,” she said, praising the community for choosing unity over division.
She conveyed greetings from President William Ruto, noting that rebuilding the church was “more than raising walls” but an expression of national resilience and dignity.
The First Lady urged that the church nurture young people grounded in faith and identity, prepared to become “peacemakers, responsible citizens and compassionate leaders.” She challenged the congregation to extend its impact beyond the sanctuary by promoting peace across Uasin Gishu and the country.
“Let KAG Christian Life Assembly Kiambaa become known for the lives it transforms, the hope it restores and the peace it helps build,” she said.
