Uasin Gishu County is making significant strides in improving water access and environmental conservation through the Bombo II Water Project in Kaptagat Ward, Ainabkoi Sub-County. This initiative is expected to greatly benefit local communities by ensuring a steady supply of clean water for both domestic and institutional use.
Expanding Water Access
According to an official post on the County Government of Uasin Gishu’s Facebook page, the project involves the installation of a 225mm HDPE gravity main and distribution lines. These improvements aim to enhance the water supply to key institutions and over 500 households in Cherunya, Ngelel Tarit, Duka Moja, Kipsinende, and Upper Beliomo areas.
During an inspection of the project, Chief Officer for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Mr. Elijah Koech, reaffirmed the county’s commitment to expanding water infrastructure in alignment with the Nguzo Kumi development framework.
“Water is a fundamental pillar of development, and through this project, we are reinforcing Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s vision under Nguzo number 7—ensuring essential services reach institutions that serve our communities. Access to clean water is not just a basic need but a driver of growth and sustainability,” said Koech during the event.
Sustainable Infrastructure Development
County Engineer Haron Kiprotich reported that construction is progressing well, with essential infrastructure being put in place to ensure the long-term functionality of the water supply system.
According to county reports, the beneficiaries of the project include Haraka Dairy Centre, Ngelel Tarit Dispensary, Kapsirwo Primary School, and Kipsinende Primary School. Improved water access is expected to enhance daily operations in these institutions, particularly in improving sanitation and efficiency in service delivery.
The project is also expected to reduce the burden on local residents, who often have to travel long distances to access clean water. With this initiative, families will have improved health conditions and a better quality of life.
Commitment to Environmental Conservation
Beyond water supply, the county government remains committed to environmental conservation. Investments in sustainable water management practices are being integrated into development plans to ensure long-term benefits for both residents and the environment.
By prioritizing water infrastructure and conservation projects, Uasin Gishu County is setting a strong foundation for economic growth and public health improvements. These efforts demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to resource management, ensuring that future generations will also benefit from sustainable water access.
The county leadership continues to encourage community participation in safeguarding water resources while leveraging modern technologies to enhance service delivery. As the Bombo II Water Project nears completion, residents can look forward to a brighter, healthier future with improved access to clean and safe water.
