The new extended deadline, set for Friday, April 11, 2025, gives businesses and transport operators more time to settle their outstanding fees. This brief extension is a significant relief for operators across Uasin Gishu, particularly small businesses and transport service providers.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has officially announced an extension for the payment deadlines of various business and transport-related fees. This comes after ongoing requests from the local business community and consultations with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).

New Payment Deadline: April 11, 2025

The new extended deadline, set for Friday, April 11, 2025, gives businesses and transport operators more time to settle their outstanding fees. This brief extension is a significant relief for operators across Uasin Gishu, particularly small businesses and transport service providers.

In a public notice issued by Governor H.E. Hon. Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, E.G.H, the extended deadline affects two main categories of payments:

  1. Single Business Permits, Land Rates, and Signage Fees: Originally due on March 31, 2025, these payments now have a new deadline of April 11, 2025.
  2. Sacco-Related Licenses for Transport Operators: This includes matatus, boda bodas, taxis, transporters, and tuktuks, which were initially due by April 7, 2025. The new extended deadline also applies to these fees.

Why the Extension Was Necessary

The decision to extend the payment deadlines comes after constructive engagements between the Uasin Gishu County Government and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI). Local business operators raised concerns about the timing of these payments, particularly in light of ongoing economic challenges. The county government recognized these challenges and responded by offering a few extra days to ease the financial burden on its business community.

What the Extension Means for Local Businesses and Transport Operators

This extension provides much-needed relief to many in the Uasin Gishu business and transport sectors, which are vital to the local economy. With a few extra days to arrange payments, small businesses, matatu operators, and other transport stakeholders can better manage their finances.

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii urged all business and transport operators to take full advantage of this extension. He emphasized the importance of ensuring compliance within the new deadline, saying, “We urge all business operators and transport stakeholders to take advantage of this extension and ensure compliance within the extended period.”

Act Now to Avoid Penalties

While the extension offers some breathing room, it’s important for stakeholders to act swiftly. Failing to make payments by April 11, 2025, may result in penalties, further exacerbating financial pressure. Therefore, business operators and transport service providers are encouraged to meet the new deadline to avoid additional costs.

Continued Support for Uasin Gishu’s Business Community

The Uasin Gishu County Government remains committed to supporting its business community while upholding regulatory standards. By working closely with KNCCI, the county is creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive and grow.
