Senator Mandago Calls for Justice and Truth

A solemn atmosphere engulfed the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in Eldoret today as hundreds gathered for the requiem mass of the late Father Alois Cheruiyot Bett, whose tragic killing in the volatile Kerio Valley region has sent shockwaves across the country.

Among the mourners was Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago. He delivered a passionate plea to the local community and Catholic faithful. He urged them to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

“There must be a church member who heard or knew something about the killing because he was waylaid while coming from a Christian Community (Jumuiya),” said Senator Mandago.

A Community in Mourning

Father Bett, a beloved servant of the church, met his untimely death in the restive Kerio Valley, a region plagued by banditry and insecurity. His body had been preserved at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret ahead of his final journey.

Leaders Unite in Grief

Senator Mandago, flanked by other leaders and clergy, stressed the need for solidarity. He called for courage and truth in the face of such a heinous crime.

“We gathered not merely in formal tribute, but in shared sorrow — mourning the irreplaceable loss of a spiritual shepherd,” the senator added.

Final Farewell

Father Bett will be laid to rest tomorrow, closing a painful chapter but opening urgent conversations on the safety of religious leaders and civilians in conflict-prone regions.

Call for Truth and Justice

As prayers continue and investigations intensify, the call is clear: those who know the truth must speak — for justice, for peace, and for the memory of Father Alois Cheruiyot Bett.

Brutal murder

The killing of Father Bett was brutal and senseless. Such acts must never be tolerated. Clergy serve peace and should be protected. The government must act swiftly. Arrest the killers. Disarm the bandits. Restore order in Kerio Valley. Justice must be seen. Silence is not an option. Enough is enough.
