A solemn atmosphere engulfed the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in Eldoret today as hundreds gathered for the requiem mass of the late Father Alois Cheruiyot Bett, whose tragic killing in the volatile Kerio Valley region has sent shockwaves across the country.
Among the mourners was Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago. He delivered a passionate plea to the local community and Catholic faithful. He urged them to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
“There must be a church member who heard or knew something about the killing because he was waylaid while coming from a Christian Community (Jumuiya),” said Senator Mandago.
A Community in Mourning
Father Bett, a beloved servant of the church, met his untimely death in the restive Kerio Valley, a region plagued by banditry and insecurity. His body had been preserved at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret ahead of his final journey.
