Big Budget Boost for Youth, Farmers, and Hospitals

Uasin Gishu County has presented a Ksh 10.18 billion budget for the 2025/2026 financial year. The budget aligns with the county’s development blueprint, Nguzo Kumi the ten-pillar transformative agenda led by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim.

The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance and Economic Planning presented the budget on Wednesday.

“This year’s budget theme is ‘Accelerating Implementation of Nguzo Kumi in the County for Socio-Economic Transformation’, which seeks to unlock economic potential and improve lives,” the CECM stated.

Infrastructure and ICT Take the Lead

Infrastructure and ICT received the largest share of Ksh 2.595 billion. The county plans to spend Ksh 97 million on building 11 bridges and box culverts.

Another Ksh 40 million is allocated to fuel county machinery, while Ksh 30 million will go toward securing burrow pits.

Boost for Agriculture

The agriculture sector will get Ksh 954.5 million to support key value chains such as dairy, poultry, potato, maize, and coffee.

“We are investing in our farmers to improve food security and create jobs in agribusiness,” the budget report reads.

Health Services Strengthened

The health sector is set to receive Ksh 2.4 billion. Of this, Ksh 90 million will go towards constructing a county diagnostic centre. An additional Ksh 60 million is allocated for the expansion of Moiben Sub-County Hospital.

Youth and Special Groups Empowered

Under the Fanikisha Hustle initiative, the county has allocated Ksh 40 million to support special groups. Ksh 25 million will help youth in vocational training centres (VTCs) acquire skills and tools.

Ksh 15 million is targeted at empowering people with disabilities.

“This is part of our commitment to inclusive development and promoting entrepreneurship among our youth,” the report highlights.

Internship Program Boosted

The county will inject Ksh 100 million into its internship program. The goal is to provide work experience and prepare youth for the job market.

Continuity of Projects

The administration also emphasized completing stalled projects from the previous government.

“We want to ensure continuity and full realization of the county’s development aspirations,” the CECM affirmed.

The proposed budget now awaits approval by the county assembly.
