Uasin Gishu targets high-value crops to transform local agricultureThe County Government of Uasin Gishu is set to distribute high-value coffee seedlings and issue cheques worth Ksh 3 million to local farmers in a bold move to revolutionize agriculture.
The event, organized by the Department of Agriculture, Agribusiness, Livestock and Fisheries, will take place on Wednesday, 25th June 2025, at Sosiani Farmers Cooperative Society, starting at 9:30 am.
Cross-County Collaboration
The ceremony will be graced by H.E. Dr. Eric Kipkoech Mutai, Governor of Kericho County, as the guest of honor. He will join the host, H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Governor of Uasin Gishu County.The activity is part of the county’s ongoing agricultural transformation efforts under the Nguzo Kumi development agenda.

Farmers from Ng’enyilel, Kamagut, Kapsoas, and Kiplombe wards in Turbo Sub-county will benefit from the program.Several local leaders are expected at the event, including:

Themed “Millionaire Farmers in the Making: Revolutionizing Agriculture with High-Value Crops,” the event signals a shift toward profit-driven farming. By promoting coffee—a globally demanded cash crop—the county aims to empower farmers with better returns and sustainable incomes.
The cheques to be issued are expected to support farmer groups and cooperatives involved in the adoption of high-value crops.
