Several families have been left homeless after a fire swept through residential houses in Kapsoya Estate, on the outskirts of Eldoret City in Uasin Gishu County.
The fire was reported opposite Mary’s Kapsoya on Tuesday, October 6, with residents watching helplessly as flames spread through the houses.
Residents said the fire destroyed several homes and household belongings, leaving affected families counting their losses.
Some residents criticised the fire brigade, accusing emergency responders of taking too long to arrive at the scene. They said a faster response could have helped contain the fire before it spread to more houses.
The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of reporting. No immediate reports were available on possible injuries or deaths.
Residents and neighbours joined efforts to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
The incident has renewed concerns among residents over emergency response services in densely populated residential areas of Eldoret, particularly where fires can quickly spread from one house to another.
Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and establish the circumstances that led to the outbreak.
The affected families now face the challenge of finding temporary shelter as they recover from the loss of their homes and property.
