The Eldoret City Marathon 2026 is officially underway. On 24 February 2026, organisers working alongside the County Government of Uasin Gishu launched the 7th edition of the race, which will take place on 26 April 2026. The announcement sets the tone for what is shaping up to be another major moment on Kenya’s road-running calendar.
A key highlight of the launch was the strengthening of ties between the marathon and the county government. This renewed partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signalling a shared commitment to growing the event and supporting athletics in the region. The launch was graced by Jonathan Bii Chelilim, whose presence reaffirmed the county’s ambition to position Eldoret as a global centre for distance running.
Free parking for champions in sports
In the same event, it was announced that sports champions will not be charged city parking fees, a public gesture meant to appreciate athletes and encourage excellence. The move builds on earlier county discussions around easing parking costs for athletes in Eldoret.
Since its founding in 2018, the Eldoret City Marathon has grown beyond a race. It was created to nurture emerging long-distance talent while promoting environmental conservation proving that sport can drive both social and environmental impact.
As April draws closer, the launch of the 7th edition points to a bigger vision: stronger partnerships, better athlete support, and a marathon that keeps Eldoret firmly at the heart of African distance running.
