Eldoret Court Sends 2 Police to Jail for 2020 Murder

An Eldoret High Court has sentenced two former police officers to 35 years in prison for torturing a man to death. The officers arrested 31-year-old Dennis Lusava on October 7, 2020, for not wearing a face mask.

Instead of following due process, the officers handcuffed Lusava inside a police cell. They tortured him until he died. Afterwards, they wrapped his body in a gunny bag and dumped it in River Nzoia, on the Bungoma-Kakamega border.

Long Trial Concludes

The case took five years. The prosecution presented 21 witnesses and 27 exhibits. Key witnesses included Lusava’s parents. The evidence convinced the court beyond doubt.

Appeal for Leniency Rejected

The officers asked for a non-custodial sentence. The judge dismissed the request. The court noted that they failed in their duty to protect life and instead acted with cruelty.

Justice Delivered

Lusava was a father of two children, aged 9 and 14. His death shocked the community. The court ruling now offers closure to his family and a reminder of accountability for those in uniform.
