The Managing Director of Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS), accompanied by the heads of the Technical and Commercial Departments, recently held a high-level consultative meeting with community representatives from Huruma Ward. The session, led by the area’s Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Kimani Wanjohi, directly addressed pressing water and sanitation challenges affecting local residents.
Community concerns Highlighted
During the meeting, residents from Huruma clearly voiced several urgent concerns. First and foremost, they stressed the need for a more reliable and consistent water supply. Many residents explained how the current water rationing schedule disrupts daily life and compromises hygiene. Moreover, the delegation pointed out the damaging effects of illegal water connections, which continue to cause unequal distribution and strain the system.

Additionally, rapid population growth in Huruma contributes to worsening infrastructure issues, including frequent sewer blockages, slow responses to pipe bursts, and overflowing manholes.Furthermore, specific locations such as Shauri and several local schools often experience water shortages, further impacting families and educational institutions.
ELDOWAS commit to Action
In response, ELDOWAS pledged to implement both immediate and long-term measures. These include:Reviewing and optimizing the water rationing schedule to ensure fairer distribution. Intensifying efforts to crack down on illegal water connections.Deploying dedicated rapid-response teams to quickly handle pipe bursts and sewer blockages. Launching a proactive inspection and maintenance program for manholes to prevent overflows
