The introduction of Live Capture Unit (LCU) technology is reshaping Kenya’s national ID registration system, addressing long-standing delays caused by manual data entry and logistical hurdles.Assessment Visit by Interior CS
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen assessed the mobile ID registration exercise on Monday at the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner’s office grounds. He lauded the new system for streamlining the application process and speeding up service delivery.

“The use of Live Capture Unit technology has alleviated delays occasioned by logistical challenges and manual data entry,” said Murkomen.
Faster Turnaround Time
Murkomen noted that once the technology is fully deployed in all sub-counties, applicants will be able to receive their national ID cards in as little as three working days — a significant leap from previous timelines that stretched into weeks.
Birth and Death Services Improved
In addition to ID services, the Interior CS emphasized that civil registration has also advanced. Birth and death certificates are now processed as applicants wait at registration centers countrywide.
Mobile Outreach for Remote Access
The mobile registration initiative is part of a broader push to extend critical government services to underserved communities. The integration of technology and mobility is expected to bridge access gaps and enhance public service delivery.
National Impact Expected
With nationwide deployment underway, the Interior Ministry hopes the LCU system will reinforce trust in government processes and empower citizens through faster, reliable documentation.
