Jambojet, Kenya’s leading low-cost carrier, celebrated its 11th anniversary with a vibrant presentation at Eldoret International Airport, showcasing its remarkable growth, global accolades, and an expanded network that now includes over 400 weekly flights.
The event highlighted the airline’s commitment to affordable travel, safety, and customer satisfaction, with a special focus on its operations at key hubs like Moi International Airport in Mombasa and Eldoret International Airport. Attended by local aviation stakeholders and enthusiasts, the presentation underscored Jambojet’s evolution from its inception in 2014 to a dominant force in East African aviation.
Founded as a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, Jambojet began operations on April 1, 2014, with its first flight from Nairobi to Mombasa using a Boeing 737-300. Over the past decade, the airline has grown significantly, now operating nine De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q-400 aircraft with an average age of six years.
These fuel-efficient turboprops, known for their quiet cabins and jet-like features, have enabled Jambojet to serve eight destinations across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The fleet expansion in 2025, including a new aircraft leased from Abu Dhabi Aviation, reflects the airline’s strategy to meet rising demand, particularly on popular routes like Nairobi to Eldoret and Mombasa. Last week Tuesday, Eldoret played a pivotal role as Jambojet welcomed its 9 millionth passenger, marking a milestone in the region’s aviation growth.
The presentation featured a detailed timeline of Jambojet’s milestones, starting with its launch and the introduction of the “Fly a Bus Campaign” in 2015 to make air travel accessible. Key achievements include winning the “Youngest Fleet in Africa” award in 2019 from ch-aviation, achieving IOSA registration in 2021 from IATA, and earning the Reliability Award in 2018/2019 from De Havilland Aircraft.
The airline has also dominated the World Travel Awards, securing the title of Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Carrier from 2022 to 2025, a testament to its consistent performance and passenger trust.Jambojet’s network now boasts over 400 weekly flights, with Nairobi and Mombasa serving as primary hubs.
From Nairobi, the airline operates up to 10 daily flights to Mombasa, four to Malindi, three to Diani, one to Lamu, five to Eldoret, and six to Kisumu. Mombasa hub offers 10 daily flights to Nairobi, one to Eldoret, one to Kisumu, and four weekly to Zanzibar.
This extensive connectivity is supported by cargo services offering up to 1,000 kg belly capacity per flight, catering to Fresh, General, Express, Live, Repatriation, and Pharma products.
Eldoret’s growing importance is evident with its three daily flights to and from Nairobi, bolstered by the recent milestone passenger, enhancing regional connectivity.The airline has transported over 9 million passengers since inception, capturing a 53% domestic market share in the first half of 2025.
With 570+ staff members, known as Jambojetters, and nine routes across its network, the carrier continues to innovate. Recent highlights include the launch of a cargo program in 2022, the Sustainable Flight Challenge in 2023, and the opening of a simulator training facility in 2019. The 10th anniversary in 2024 was marked by the Aviation Challenge, reinforcing Jambojet’s leadership.
At Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Jambojet runs up to 10 daily flights from Nairobi, operating from Unit 2, while Eldoret sees three daily flights to and from Nairobi.
The airline maintains a sales office at Eldoret, open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
This strategic focus on Eldoret supports economic growth and tourism, with the 9 millionth passenger milestone underscoring the region’s rising prominence.
