In a powerful call to action, Juliet Mokiera, Women Representative at the Eldoret National Polytechnic, is rallying the youth of Uasin Gishu County to join the Vijana Ni Nguzo Movement, an initiative focused on youth empowerment, civic education, and national unity.

Speaking during a youth engagement forum, Mokiera noted that Kenyan youths face similar struggles, especially in the current economic and political climate. She emphasized that unity among the youth is essential if any meaningful progress is to be made. “Youths must be united for one purpose taking Kenya forward. We should support each other: youths for youths,” she said.
The Vijana Ni Nguzo Movement, translated as Youth Are the Pillar, is aimed at mobilizing young people to take charge of their future through informed participation in civic matters. Mokiera highlighted the high rate of youth unemployment in Kenya, cautioning against the trend of blaming politicians without taking responsibility. Instead, she advocates for peer-to-peer support and the creation of platforms where youth voices can be heard and respected.
One of the movement’s core principles is accountability, and Mokiera encouraged young people to pay their taxes and actively engage in democratic processes. “Let’s pay revenue. We can’t complain about poor roads or lack of medicine in hospitals if we haven’t paid our taxes to fund these services,” she stated, adding that taxpayer money is the foundation of national development.
Mokiera further noted that the youth must seize every opportunity to hold leaders accountable. With the current political term nearing its end, she reminded the youth that the ballot is the most powerful tool for change. “If you want good governance, you must take part in voting go to the ballot and decide who can deliver it,” she urged.
The Women Representative also encouraged youth to register in political parties, not just as voters but also as influencers of policy and party direction. “Nominate individuals who can bring change,” she said, reinforcing the idea that youth participation is key to achieving youth representation.
In conclusion, Mokiera emphasized that a united youth is a united nation. Through the Vijana Ni Nguzo Movement, she believes Kenyan youth can chart a new path one defined by empowerment, integrity, and collective progress.
