New Faces in Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee

Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee

Change is in the air for Eldoret residents as the Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee undergoes a strategic shake-up. On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim announced new appointments and internal reshuffles meant to boost efficiency and sharpen the county’s service delivery.

This major reorganization is part of a broader plan to enhance public service in key sectors affecting daily life in Eldoret, from youth programs to infrastructure.

New Uasin Gishu County Executive to Strengthen Public Service

Governor Bii exercised his powers under Section 35 of the County Government Act, 2012 to bring two fresh faces on board:

  • Janet Kurgat has been appointed as the County Executive Committee Member for Public Service Management, Administration, and Devolved Units.
  • Robert Rotich Kemei takes up the role of CEC Member for Youth Affairs, Sports, ICT, and Innovation.

These two leaders are expected to inject new energy into public administration and youth development—two critical pillars for a fast-growing hub like Eldoret.

Internal Changes to Improve Delivery

In addition to the new appointments, the governor also invoked Section 31(b)(a) of the County Government Act to reassign some current committee members:

  • Dr. Abraham Serem now heads Roads, Transport, and Public Works.
  • Eng. Joseph Lagat will lead Health Services.
  • Eng. Lucy Ngendo Njoroge has taken over Education, Vocational Training, Gender, Social Protection, and Culture.

These changes target service gaps in healthcare, education, and infrastructure—areas that matter most to Eldoret’s residents.

  • Faster road repairs and safer transport
  • Improved healthcare access
  • More youth and innovation programs
  • Stronger support for education and culture

The reshuffle seeks to put capable leaders in charge of departments that directly impact the lives of Eldoret citizens.

Looking Ahead

Governor Bii emphasized that the reorganization aims to make the government more responsive and effective. By aligning leadership with performance needs, the county expects quicker decisions, better results, and more engagement with locals.

The residents of Eldoret should stay optimistic. This fresh leadership mix in the Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee promises better governance, improved services, and a more vibrant county.
