Residents of Mumetet in Moiben Sub-County marked a major milestone today with the official handover of the Mumetet Water Project site to a contracted builder. The initiative, under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, is aimed at improving access to clean and reliable water for the community.
Clean Water for Schools and Homes
Once completed, the Mumetet Water Project will benefit both Mumetet Primary and Secondary Schools, alongside surrounding households. The infrastructure will include several key components:
Construction of a water sump
Installation of a solar-powered water pump
Laying of distribution pipelines to homes and schools
Erection of a steel water tower with a 10,000-litre tank
Fencing of the spring for long-term protection and sustainability
Speaking during the handover, Project Engineer Mr. Barno assured residents of quality delivery and on-time implementation. He urged the local community to take ownership of the project for sustained impact.
Expansion in Tendenei
In a related event, Mr. Bill Matelong, the FLLoCA Climate Change Unit Officer for Moiben, led the official site handover for the Tendenei Phase 2 Water Project. This second phase aims to extend the existing pipeline by an additional 3 kilometers, boosting supply and coverage for the growing population in Tendenei.
Strengthening Climate Resilience
Both water projects are part of a broader strategy by FLLoCA to strengthen climate resilience in Uasin Gishu County. By involving local leadership and communities, the program seeks to address water insecurity through sustainable infrastructure development.
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to delivering meaningful development at the grassroots level,” said Mr. Matelong. “Access to safe water is not only a basic need but a critical component in climate adaptation and public health improvement.”
