New Rules Coming for Health Facility Funds

Uasin Gishu County Secretary Philip Meli has called for urgent action from the County Health Management Team to establish clear guidelines for implementing the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF).Speaking during a strategic engagement with health officials, Meli stressed the importance of aligning the county’s health operations with the Governor’s vision for timely and efficient healthcare services.

Empowering Facility In-Charges

Meli emphasized the need to empower facility in-charges by giving them well-structured financial management tools. According to him, clear guidelines will help in proper utilization of available resources, ensuring that every coin is accounted for.

“We must deliver on our promise to the residents by developing clear guidelines that will empower facility in-charges to manage their resources more effectively and ensure every shilling is put to good use,” he said.

Call for Accountability

He challenged facility heads to take full ownership of their roles, noting that effective leadership at the grassroots is key to a strong healthcare system.

“Let’s be accountable, proactive, and results-driven,” Meli added, underlining the need for a responsible and committed team.

Support from Health Officials

Dr. Paul Wangwe, the Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health, echoed Meli’s remarks. He urged the team to put residents first and dedicate themselves fully to their roles.

Dr. Wangwe reminded the team that healthcare service delivery remains central to the county’s development blueprint – Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi agenda. The second pillar of this plan focuses on improving access to quality health services.

Path to Stronger Healthcare

Both leaders insisted on transparency, teamwork, and performance. They reaffirmed the county’s commitment to transforming health systems through improved resource management and local leadership. The County Health Management Team is now expected to move swiftly in drafting and sharing the FIF implementation framework with facility in-charges across the county.

With health reforms now taking center stage, Uasin Gishu County is showing intent to make grassroots healthcare more accountable, responsive, and efficient – in line with its promise to deliver better services to the people.
