Businesses and residents of Uasin Gishu County could benefit from increased investment, job creation and technology transfer following engagements between Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and a Polish delegation seeking investment opportunities in the region.
Governor Bii hosted the delegation, led by Westpomeranian Region Deputy Marshal Anna Bańkowska, which included representatives of twelve Polish companies exploring potential areas of cooperation with the County Government.
The discussions focused on key sectors, including agricultural machinery, fertilisers, food-processing equipment, cosmetics, railway engineering, cybersecurity and industrial technology, with opportunities expected to strengthen Eldoret’s position as a growing commercial and industrial hub.
For local businesses, the proposed partnerships could create opportunities to supply goods and services to incoming investors, establish distribution networks and access modern technologies. Small and medium-sized enterprises in Eldoret, including transport operators, construction firms, retailers, accommodation providers and food suppliers, could benefit from increased commercial activity if the investment proposals translate into actual projects.
The agricultural sector, which remains a major economic pillar in Uasin Gishu, could also gain from access to modern machinery, improved farming technologies and more efficient fertiliser solutions. Such developments could help farmers increase productivity, reduce operational costs and improve the quality of their produce.
Investment in food-processing equipment could further support value addition by enabling farmers and agribusinesses to process locally produced commodities instead of selling them in raw form. This could increase earnings, create employment and strengthen links between farmers, processors and markets.
The proposed cooperation could also provide employment opportunities for young people through technical training, manufacturing, logistics and other services required by new businesses. Local professionals and entrepreneurs could benefit from skills development and exposure to international business practices.
Governor Bii said Uasin Gishu’s strategic location, agricultural strength, expanding urban economy and industrial potential made it an attractive destination for investors seeking mutually beneficial partnerships.
The engagement also presents an opportunity for Eldoret businesses to expand beyond local markets by forming partnerships with Polish companies and accessing wider supply chains.
However, the long-term economic impact will depend on whether the discussions result in concrete investments, local hiring, skills transfer and meaningful participation by Kenyan businesses.
The County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a favourable investment environment, with the ultimate goal of turning international partnerships into sustainable economic growth, increased household incomes and improved livelihoods across Uasin Gishu.
