North Rift Youth to Benefit from New Robotics, Coding and AI Training Programme

Young people in Kenya’s North Rift region are set to benefit from a new digital skills training initiative aimed at equipping them with practical knowledge in robotics, computer programming and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The programme is being implemented through a partnership between the Technopolis Development Authority (TDA) and Cube Innovation Hub as part of efforts to expand access to emerging technology skills and prepare young people for opportunities in the digital economy.

The initiative was officially highlighted during the CIRIS TECH 2026 event held at The Eldoret National Polytechnic in Uasin Gishu County, bringing together stakeholders in the technology and education sectors to discuss innovation and digital skills development.

Dr. Esther Thaara Mworia, who was the chief guest at the event, was represented by Tom Otieno Olango. The gathering also attracted Elizabeth Mbege, Director in charge of Skills at the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Training will begin at The Eldoret National Polytechnic before being expanded to other parts of the North Rift region to enable more young people to access technology-based learning opportunities.

Through the programme, participants will receive hands-on training in robotics, coding and Artificial Intelligence, giving them practical exposure to technologies increasingly shaping industries and the global job market.

The initiative is also expected to create opportunities for young people to explore technology-driven entrepreneurship, develop innovative solutions and acquire skills that can generate income through digital platforms.

The partnership seeks to address the growing demand for technology skills while helping young people position themselves for employment opportunities in an increasingly digital world.

It also reinforces the government’s Jitume Digital Enablement Programme, which seeks to expand access to digital skills, innovation opportunities and online employment for Kenyan youth.

With Eldoret serving as the starting point, the planned expansion across the North Rift is expected to bring emerging technology training closer to young people who may otherwise face challenges accessing specialised digital education.

The initiative marks another step towards strengthening the region’s participation in Kenya’s growing digital economy, with robotics, coding and AI emerging as important skills for future careers and innovation.
