County Backs Entrepreneurs as Governor Prioritizes MSME Growth

Empowering local businesses through innovation, training, and market access

In a bold step to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem, the County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as part of its fourth development pillar. This strategic focus aligns with Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s broader economic agenda to empower local businesses and unlock new market opportunities.

Speaking during a recent event where entrepreneurs received certificates for completing a training program on intellectual property rights, County Director of Trade, Isaac Lagat, emphasized the importance of equipping innovators with practical skills and resources.

“Our goal is to ensure every innovator has the tools, training, and opportunities to thrive,” said Lagat. “The Governor’s vision is to build a strong foundation where businesses can flourish, access regional and global markets, and scale sustainably.”

Supporting MSMEs Through Training and Market Access

The county’s recent initiatives reflect a shift toward structured and strategic support for local entrepreneurs. The training on intellectual property rights is just one of several capacity-building efforts aimed at enhancing business competitiveness. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to leverage Export Processing Zones (EPZs) to explore global markets and expand their customer base.

To further streamline service delivery, the county is developing a comprehensive database of local innovators. This registry will help tailor support and create targeted interventions to match each business’s needs, promoting long-term growth and resilience.

Driving Innovation Through Certification and Data

Lagat noted that acquiring proper certifications is key to accessing larger markets. The county’s emphasis on formalizing businesses and tracking their progress through data-driven approaches is a major milestone in fostering innovation.

“By mapping out our innovators, we can better understand their challenges and connect them to relevant opportunities and resources,” he added.

A Thriving Future for Local Businesses

As the county accelerates its efforts to support MSMEs, this initiative is expected to generate tangible results—ranging from increased employment to greater economic output. Local entrepreneurs now have access to the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to grow their ventures beyond county borders.

The Governor’s administration has made it clear: MSMEs are a top priority. With focused leadership, structured training programs, and market-driven strategies, the county is positioning itself as a hub of innovation and business excellence.

Conclusion

The County’s MSME support strategy marks a significant turning point in its economic development journey. With Governor Chelilim at the helm, and strategic efforts like intellectual property training and certification support in place, local businesses are poised for success.
