The County Government of Uasin Gishu has taken a major step in strengthening healthcare services by flagging off a consignment of essential drugs worth KSh 21.5 million. The medicines will be distributed to 138 health facilities across the county, aiming to ease shortages and improve service delivery.
The flag-off ceremony was led by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, who reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering accessible and quality healthcare to every resident of Uasin Gishu.
“We are committed to prioritizing healthcare as a core pillar of our development agenda. Every resident should walk into a health facility and receive the treatment they need without delay,” said Dr. Bii.
This consignment is part of a larger KSh 36 million drug order placed with the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). The second phase, valued at KSh 14.5 million, is expected to be delivered within two weeks, further bolstering the availability of essential medical supplies.
Strategic Support to Local Health Facilities
The Governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea, Chief of Staff Dr. Patrick Chumba, Health CEC Dr. Abraham Serem, and Preventive and Promotive Health Chief Officer Dr. Paul Wangwe—signaling unified leadership in addressing health system challenges.
Mama Rachel Maternity Hospital was singled out for its excellence in service delivery, with the Governor commending its growing reputation and increased patient inflow. This highlights the positive impact of ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure and staffing.
Addressing Drug Shortages and Service Gaps
With the new consignment, the county expects to drastically reduce drug shortages, ensuring smoother operations at dispensaries, health centers, and hospitals countywide. Healthcare workers will be better equipped to serve patients, reducing waiting times and boosting overall satisfaction.
“Our goal is to build a responsive healthcare system that meets the needs of our people,” said Dr. Serem.
A Sustainable Commitment to Public Health
The delivery underscores the county government’s vision to provide affordable, accessible, and reliable healthcare. With strategic partnerships, consistent budgeting, and proactive planning, Uasin Gishu is positioning itself as a leader in county-level health service delivery.
