Why Former Carnversations Host Erick Wokabi Chose Eldoret Over Nairobi for His Auto Garage

Erick Wokabi

Former Carnversations host and automotive content creator Erick Wokabi has revealed why he chose Eldoret over Nairobi when establishing Neon Mobility Limited, a modern vehicle repair and maintenance centre.

Wokabi, who gained recognition through the popular automotive YouTube channel Carnversations before moving on to Auto Konnekt Kenya, says the decision was guided by Eldoret’s rapid economic and population growth.

Eldoret was officially elevated to become Kenya’s fifth city on August 15, 2024, a development expected to attract further investment and infrastructure growth.

Some 2026 population projections estimate that the city’s population has grown beyond 675,000, although population estimates differ depending on the boundaries and methodology used.

For Wokabi and his team, however, the decision was not based on population numbers alone.

Eldoret’s position along the Northern Corridor gives the city significant economic value. The route connects Nairobi and Mombasa with markets in Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan, making Eldoret an important centre for transport, logistics and vehicle movement.

The city has also grown beyond its traditional dependence on agriculture and transport. Its expanding healthcare sector, learning institutions, financial institutions and skilled workforce are attracting more residents, businesses and investment.

According to Wokabi, this growth is creating increased demand for professional vehicle repair and maintenance services that meet modern automotive standards.

“To us, Eldoret is not just a transit and agricultural city. It presents an opportunity to create value by meeting the auto-repair demands and standards of a fast-growing city,” he said.

One year after setting up operations, Wokabi says Neon Mobility has made significant progress. He says the company reached a major milestone in 2026 after being appointed an authorised Subaru repair centre.

The business has also invested in hybrid vehicle diagnostics, repair and maintenance, addressing a service gap that previously forced some hybrid vehicle owners in Eldoret and the wider North Rift region to seek specialised assistance elsewhere.

Neon Mobility’s website lists vehicle servicing, hybrid maintenance and general automotive repairs among its services. The garage is located in Pioneer, Eldoret.

Motorists looking for the garage can search Neon Mobility on Google Maps for directions to its Pioneer location.

The investment reflects a growing confidence in Eldoret as more entrepreneurs look beyond Nairobi and position their businesses in cities with expanding populations, rising purchasing power and unmet demand for specialised services.
