Moi University has come out to clarify that its ongoing auction is legal and above board. The university says the process follows the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015. It also adheres to all relevant government rules.
Routine Disposal
According to a statement by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiplagat Kotut, the auction targets unserviceable, obsolete, or surplus items. He said the disposal is part of a routine and lawful institutional process.
Supervised by Disposal Committee
The exercise is being overseen by the University’s Disposal Committee. The team ensures all procedures are followed to the letter. Prof. Kotut said the aim is to uphold transparency, accountability, and legal compliance.
No Irregularities

Prof. Kotut strongly denied claims circulating in some media reports suggesting wrongdoing.
“We strongly dispel any misleading claims or insinuations… The auction does not imply or suggest any irregular activity,” he stated.
Committed to Good Governance
Moi University emphasized that it is committed to good governance and public accountability. The Vice-Chancellor added that the institution values responsible use of public resources.
Call for Accurate Reporting
The university urged the public and media to ignore unverified claims. It asked stakeholders to rely on official channels for accurate information.
The statement aimed to reassure the public that the auction is a clean and well-managed process. Prof. Kotut affirmed that Moi University will continue to operate with integrity and in full compliance with the law.
